Pinocchio’s leg: Mandy’s leg will not stop growing

New Delhi: Mandy Sellars, 38, suffers from a rare form of disease because of which her legs will not stop growing.
The condition has caused her legs to grow unconditionally her whole life.
It is the only known case of its kind in the world.
But, Sellars can breathe a sigh of relief after doctors were successfully able to map her DNA and find a possible cure for her condition.
She had her massive size left imputed after it contacted infection. But her leg did not stop growing and within three years measured a meter in circumference and weighed 3stone (19 kilograms).
The condition has left Sellars severely disabled. She has to take the help of a specially designed reinforced wheelchair to move around.
Over the past year, Dr Robert Semple has mapped her DNA from blood and tissue samples. Ms Sellars' presumed she had a rare form of Proteus Syndrome - the condition that affected the Elephant man. However, the analysis revealed she had a unique disorder, reported Daily Mail.
Mandy Sellars was dramatically different when she was born. Doctor’s whisked her away when she was born and did not show her face to her mother. The doctors were not sure if they would survive.
He left leg was three inches longer than her right leg. Her condition is found in one seven billion people all across the world.
Life has not been easy for these brave women. She suffered a spinal stroke in 2002 that her paralysed for two months and all the while her legs kept growing.
In 2005 she got a blood infection, then her kidneys failed and she got MRSA.
By 2008 her left leg was five inches longer than her right with a club foot that turned backwards and together they weighed 15stone.
She had her left leg amputated above the knee in 2010 after developing blood poisoning. But the stump began growing rapidly again.
